Most of my visits to Yosemite have come in the busy summer season - but just once my husband and I visited on a whim in the fall to celebrate our engagement. We arrived just as the sun was beginning to set and had the opportunity to see some gorgeous views. Someday I'd love to back in the winter to do some snowshoeing.

Read MoreAfter living within walking or short driving distance of the Pacific for most of life - I crave time by the ocean. Kalaloch is quiet beach filled with beautiful piles of (dangerous) driftwood and it's probably my favorite getaway from the city. There's just something special about this place we visited on our first trip to Washington State, two years before we moved to Seattle, and where we went away together to work in on writing our wedding ceremony.

The first stop on our trip was Athens, Greece where we visited the Acropolis and I found myself much more taken with the Erechtheion temple than the Parthenon.

A cruise on Milford Sound is an absolute must on any visit to Fiordland. With the gorgeous blue water, the peaks surrounding the sound, and the possibility of seeing penguins - it just doesn't get much better.
Read MoreLast weekend we took a long overdue trip to the coast. We ended up in Westport, about a 2 1/2 hour drive from Seattle and it was a perfect place to soak up some beach time and take in the views of the pacific. Oh, and our pup loved it too.

Read MoreBeginning from the car park at Puerto de Izpegi, which sits right on the border between France and Spain, the Frontier Views Walk outlined in Lonely Planet's Hiking in Spain book certainly lives up to its name. This 10.5 km hike wanders between open fern covered hillsides, beech forests, and high up to wind swept ridges - all the while crossing back and forth between the two countries.
