The Friday Five: Molly's Five Favorite Restaurants In London

I'm so excited to introduce my first ever guest post here on Gluten Free Travelette!

Currently based in London, Molly is a Holistic Nutrition Consultant and shares recipes and tips on her blog, The Particular Kitchen. Her raw dessert recipes are incredibly drool-worthy and it's wonderful to see how much time she puts into her community though talks and workshops.

Molly's Five Favorite Restaurants in London

1. The Gate

This vegetarian restaurant is right up the street from our flat, hidden on a quiet side street near Hammersmith Bridge. We've shared many beautiful meals here, most recently a 5-course set menu for Valentines Day, all with inventive and exciting flavors. The menu offers lots of vegan and gluten-free options, including desserts, so for that reason, we visit as often as possible! Even our friends with non-restricted diets love it here.

2. Happy Kitchen

Another hidden gem, this time in East London. I discovered Happy Kitchen at Broadway Market one sunny Saturday and was delighted when they opened a full-time cafe. They serve delicious vegan meals for lunch, but the real draw are the healthy and decadent sweet treats. All of their baked goods are gluten-free, dairy-free, and contain no refined sugars. Their triple chocolate cupcakes are out of this world.

3. Wild Food Cafe

One of my favorite places in London is Neal's Yard in Covent Garden. This small courtyard is colorful and quirky and is home to some great shops and restaurants. The highlight is Wild Food Cafe, up a flight of stairs, with tables at the window so you can people-watch in the courtyard below. Wild Food's kitchen is smack-dab in the middle of the open plan dining room, so there are always wonderful smells and sounds. Since most of the menu is raw, there are plenty of gluten-free choices here.

4. Mildreds

Another vegetarian paradise, this time in the heart of Soho, where there are 5 out-of-this-world restaurants on every block. There is always a line (or "queue") outside Mildreds - it's a popular spot, regardless of the meatless menu. Like The Gate, they offer plenty of gluten-free choices and are always highlighting the freshest ingredients of the season. I love their Detox Salad - light enough to feel virtuous but big enough for a main course.

5. Rosie's Deli

Sometimes I fall in love with a place because of its decor, never mind the menu! Rosie's is just that place - a small and unassuming cafe tucked inside Brixton Market in South London. This breakfast and lunch spot is worth a visit if only to meet Rosie herself - she's run the place for 8 years and still works behind the counter, serving up coffee and scrambling eggs. All of the beautiful cakes and tarts are homemade in her tiny deli kitchen (and it's seriously tiny). I can't wait to check out her new cookbook, Supper With Rosie.

A Favorite Travel Memory: Snorkeling in Grenada with my husband on honeymoon, at the Underwater Sculpture Park in Molinere Bay. A British artist created over 65 concrete sculptures and placed them on the ocean floor, where they've now become home to local marine life - it's spooky and beautiful!

A Favorite Ingredient: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I'm not sure where I'd be without it, in both my regular cooking and skin care routines!
