A New Project: Our Edible Garden
Well, it's time to begin consulting these two books. You see, when we bought them it was with the hope that someday we will own a house and be able to plant our whole yard full of edible plants. In the mean time we've been sticking to container gardening and over the past three years we've been carefully cultivating an edible container garden.
But this year things will be different because our wonderful landlords have agreed to let us convert half of our front yard into an edible garden!
Above is the basic plan that my hubby put together (note: it's not to scale). We're planning on three raised beds at about 4' x 8' each. Right now that area is covered with patchy lumpy grass so we'll need to do something about that before we put the beds down. After the beds are built, we're thinking of filling in the area between with wood chips or something similar.
What will we plant in our new edible garden?
- Rhubarb
- Watermelon Radishes
- Kale
- Arugula
- Chives
- Eggplant
- Cucumbers
- Sun Gold Tomatoes
- Zucchini
- Garlic
- Little Gem Romaine
- Swiss Chard
- and much more I'm sure!
With this great new gardening adventure on the horizon stay tuned for a new series of posts about our edible garden. I might even be able to convince my hubby to contribute a post or two about preparing our yard and building the raised beds.
