Ten Good Reads from June 2014

Thor's Well, Cape Perpetua, Oregon

June has been quite the month. It started off quiet, thank goodness, since we've ended up having to find a new place to live in a short time frame. Luckily, everything worked out and we'll be settling into our new home base next week. We'll really miss our old neighborhood but are very much excited for the change to start a new chapter of our lives.

It's a good thing we found and locked in a place mid month because these last two weeks have been spent on the road, quite literally. We road tripped the beautiful Oregon Coast in just one day (go check out my Instagram feed for a peek at our Oregon Coast Challenge), drove my favorite route in northern California along Highway 1 and 128, and then bombed up I-5 right back to Seattle. From there I got on a 7am flight to Alaska, drove down to Seward to visit another glacier, and before the month is over I'll be headed over the Cascades to attend the Northwest Overland Rally.

With the upcoming move, followed by what I know will be an amazing trip to Portland for World Domination Summit,  I'll be taking next week or so off here on the blog so I can focus on those activities and spend some time working on a couple long overdue trip videos! As always you can follow both my home base and on the road adventures on Instagram.

What I Was Reading Around The Web

1. A Taste of New Zealand | Living A Kiwi Life

This post made me miss New Zealand so much! I enjoyed so many gluten free varieties of these treats. Yum.

2. Party's Over: Thoughts on Parking the Truck and Heading Home | Desk to Glory

This look back on Rich and Ash's journey makes me want to get on the road so badly!

3. Travelette of the Month: Natalie Ille - Captain Awesome | Travelettes

Oh how I wish I was a member of her crew - Natalie is so inspiring! And I just love this particular comment of hers; "Another piece of advice is not to trust reasonable people – at least to a certain extent."

4. What You Should Know About Eating Out With Allergies | Serious Eats

There are just so many good points made in here and I'm a big fan of Jacqueline's straight forward take on the issues. Perhaps the most important piece of advice in this article is to take responsibility for yourself! As someone who is rather complicated when it comes to my necessary dietary restrictions - I really appreciate her consideration of the subject.

5. Maui Guide :: Kihei | Fluxi On Tour

Call me Maui curious. It's one the the islands I've never been to and never had much interest in visiting until I saw Ana's Instagram's from her recent visit.

6. Hiking Limestone Canyon & "The Sinks" | Campfire Chic

I had no idea such a place existed in Orange County.

7. The Art of Mindful Photography | Intelligent Travel

Yes to everything in this piece about photography - one of my favorite reads on the subject in a long time.

8. Lake Kachess State Park | Finding the Extraordinary in the Ordinary

This lake looks absolutely lovely, I'll have to make a little trip out there this summer.

9. Hawaii, An Island For Every Type Of Traveler | The Traveling Philosopher

Love this round up from Spencer on the different attributes of the different Hawaiian Islands.

10. Adventure Log: The Dirtbag Road Trip - Aspen | Dirtbag Darling

I very much need to spend some time in Aspen, I love the recommendation for a great spot to take a shower too!
